No service exists that’s dedicated for discussion about TV shows. Letterboxd exists for movies, but there’s no established “Letterboxd” for television, which leaves out the large population of consumers and fans who want to discuss their favorite shows. Nowadays, people share everything about their daily lives with their friends and family. Why not create an app where they can share and discuss their favorite TV shows as well?
I designed how users sign in, log movies, and interact with friends, addressing user needs by creating an all-in-one platform for entertainment lover to share their thoughts and opinions on tv shows. I designed a social page for the app, allowing users to see what their friends have watched and reviewed; a show review page to see what friends and other BINGE users rated the show; and discussion boards based on each show’s season and episodes, so users are able to interact and build a community of fans.

As a team, we conducted 5 user interviews and 35 surveys targeted at college students with different habits and lifestyles, but all television show fanatics. From these interviews, we found that people usually watch shows late at night, or in the background while they’re completing tasks like chores and homework.

UX Design is a combination of both sides of the brain- logic and creativity. Understanding when to flex each side was crucial during this all-hands-on-deck project. With some good communication and solid feedback, we made strides in our work and achieved a solid final product.

Not only is communication important between users and their needs, it’s also crucial between the team. Thankfully the BINGE team had established effective guidelines and team expectations, resulting in flow-based UX that was good enough to win us 1st place in our class’s design competition at the end of the semester. We each got a hammer out of it (that I still have till this day).
